Today's blog about....Werewolves

Today's Blog about is about Werewolves.

I have recently discovered that I'm a pretty good fan of the werewolf genre.

What do these three have in common?

Well starting off the two teen wolf(s) both have the same name as that is apparent. But the thing that ties them all together is that they are all based around a kid in high school involved in some sort of sport.

The first Teen Wolf(1985) , a movie starring Micheal J. Fox, is about a boy who is on the basketball team. He was actually born a werewolf but doesn't know it until strange things start happening to him and he transforms.

In all three TV/Movie medias here they gain enhanced abilities that make them popular (or more popular) in their sports endeavors.

Big Wolf On Campus (1999-2002) was a TV series about a football jock. Basically the plot of the series is that the week before he returns to school for his senior year, popular High School Football jock, Tommy Dawkins, is bitten and turned into a werewolf. The only person Tommy Dawkins can turn to for help is the school nerd and Goth Fantasy Guild President Merton J Dingle. Now Tommy & Merton while still looking for a cure for Tommy's condition fight a whole slew of baddies in Pleasantville including Mummies, Vampires, 50's Bullies, Witches. In the Second Season they are joined by kickboxer Lori Baxter who had just transfered from Pleasantville Catholic."

The story was fun and entertaining and a little bit silly. But there are big similarities between Big Wolf On Campus and Teen Wolf (TV series).

Teen Wolf (Tv series) is based around a young lacrosse-playing outsider named Scott McCall. One night he wanders around the woods in search of a dead body and is attacked by a werewolf. He escapes the attack with only a bite to his side, but later starts to notice some changes in himself.

Although there have only been two episodes of this series so far, it has a lot of potential and it seems very similar of that of Big Wolf On Campus.

First off in Teen Wolf the main character has a best friend named Stiles who although is not as dorky and goth like Merton, Stile become the sort of sidekick like character to Scott.

Now mind you it's been a long time since I've seen Big Wolf on Campus but I can still spot the similarites. In Episode 2 of Teen Wolf (I believe and I might be wrong) Stiles mentions to Scott that he could chain (Scott) up on on full moons and feed him mice and proceeds to say that he could do it, he had a Boa once. Now Merton suggested the same thing and actually had a boa at the time of the show.

I'm not sure of the writers of the show saw Big Wolf On Campus before or if it's just a coincidence.

Anyways... that's about all for Werewolf TV/Movie media for now...

There's also this great Werewolf book Trilogy that I like as well.

(The third book is to be released July 12th)

The trilogy is called "The Wolves of Mercy Falls". The basic plot of the trilogy is "When Grace falls in love with Sam, a boy who must become a wolf each winter, they must decide how much they're willing to risk in order to be together. "

Apparently the author will be releasing a fourth book in the Shiver series in July of 2012. (That kind of makes me excited ^_^)

You can read about them on the author's website here http://www.maggiestiefvater.com/novels.php#wolves

It's a really great series about a love story of a boy (who's a werewolf) and a girl. I won't give too much away because I want you to read it but it's an amazing story. Maggie Stiegvater
